I'm always on the hunt for good reading. What was the best book you read in 2011? What was it about, and why did you like it?

I am glad you asked John! I've recently read The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives.... GREAT book... well-written... The author explains how randomness plays a much greater role in everyday life than one might think. He discusses the basics of probability and statistics and provides wonderful illustrations from sports, medicine, psychology and the stock market. I've also read The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable by Nassim Nicholas Taleb (It has absolutely nothing to do with the movie)... This is an entertaining and enlightening book, and it is fairly easy to read. It has an important message regarding how the world works... Let me know if you get around to reading either of them!

I enjoyed "The Happiness Advantage" by Shawn Achor.   It delved into the question of whether successful people are happy or are happy people successful?   I found the book to be insightful and gave tangible concepts that anyone can apply to their life and work to improve their performance and increase their happiness.

What I liked is that the book went beyond repeating "daily affirmations" and gave you real actionable ideas that make a difference.

Other books I enjoyed were:  "Start with Why" by Simon Sinek,  "Switch: How to Make Change When Change is Hard" by Chip and Dan Health,  and  "Unbreakable" by Laura Hilldebrand.   The last one is not a business book but a biography of a truly inspirational and incredible story of an American Olympian and war hero during WWII.

Read "Start With Why" by Sinek; there is also a great 18-minute video of him on ted.com.  I'll check out the other recommendations!

Has anyone read "The Oz Principle"?  Thoughts?
